Henley Hawks - National Divison 2 South

This season promises to be one of the most exciting ever. No doubt you thought I would say that but let me just highlight some of the rugby that we can expect this year.

After the disappointment of last year when the Hawks returned once again to National 2 there is a real buzz in the squad determined to make amends in terms of performance and to entertain spectators in a way that was reminiscent of past seasons. You will see a rejuvenated style of play which Pete and the coaching team is determined to implement. The squad started in mid-June, earlier than usual, with some hard baseline fitness session both in Oxford and Henley. This enabled the squad to meet in July fitter than ever. This will be a huge element in our goal to be the fittest team in the league.

All of this in addition to our superb new clubhouse then let’s bring on the start of the 2016/17 season.

See you on the touchline

Henley Hawks Women - National Division Championship South

The team continues to build upon the great success achieved from the last few years. The team plan to renter the premiership whilst looking to develop players, start a second team and junior girls sections and increase their presence in the 7's set up.

The squad is around 30, but needs to expand in order to help meet the demands of the condensed league seasons and cup competitions at this top level.  If you are interested in playing for Henley Hawks Women and would like to train with us please contact the team below:

Henley Bulls - Zoo Sports League, Division One

Welcome to the Henley Bulls! This season we are playing in the Zoo Sports League, Division One.  For information please click on the button below:

Henley Bulls are the club's 2nd XV and compete in the Shield Division 1 along with 2nd XV teams from The Championship, National 1 &2 clubs. The Bulls play an integral part in sustaining the Hawks at National League level. The Bulls train and prepare alongside the Hawks and play at an equally challenging and competitive environment relative to the 1st XV providing a platform for players with the potential to reach the 1st team level and the ideal pathway for a transition from the junior level of the club to senior rugby. The young players develop alongside their senior club colleagues from the Hawks squad, gaining the experience of both training and playing and have become an valuable resource for the continued success of the Hawks.

The Shield Division 1 includes teams from Jersey, London Scottish and Richmond from the English Championship who often field pedigree players returning from long term injury and this experience brings the best out in players who enjoy the same quality coaching provided to the 1st XV and has seen a crop of Bulls players rise up the ranks over recent seasons.

The Bulls also provide the next challenge for players progressing from the Vikings (the club's 3rd team), and those performing well at local divisional level have an opportunity to test themselves against stiffer opposition with the support they need to make a success of it.

Head Coach                                                   Andy Jones

Henley Vultures - Oxfordshire RFU Veterans Cup & Occasional Fixtures

The Vultures represent the “finely matured vintage” of Hawks players, in other words “the Veterans”.

The mighty Vultures are the current holders of the Oxfordshire County Veterans Cup, and we also play some of the other top Veterans sides in London and the South East, including Richmond and Olney who are always very strong opponents.

We are an active side and aim to play around 15 times a year, including a tour to Jersey for their International 10’s tournament in early October, and we are invited again this year to the Dubai International Vets 10’s which take place during the Dubai World Sevens in early December.

You do not have to have been a former Hawks player to enjoy playing with the Vultures, and indeed we have many former Henley Wanderers (who took the place of the clubs 3rd and 4th team a decade or so ago) still playing regularly for us. We also welcome new members who have moved into the area, and we even have a few “elder statesmen” from other local clubs who enjoy the “craic and style” that the Vultures bring to the party.

Players of all standards are welcome, and many players whoin their youth had no pretensions of reaching 1st or 2nd XV heights really enjoy turning out alongside some of the Legends and former Captains’ of the Hawks (of which we had 6 play last year at various stages). Many of the Vultures also play for the Henley Bears, the club 4th XV, and wherever possible we try and avoid a fixture clash with them.

For further information about how you can play and upcoming fixtures please contact Rob Heginbotham: rob@theheggers.com or call 07771 760822.
