Hawks Women announce new coaching set-up

The club is pleased to announce the following appointments for the 2019-2020 season.

Ollie Perry is promoted from Head Coach to Director of Women’s Rugby

Ollie has been instrumental in the success of the Women’s XV over the last few years culminating in securing 5th place in RFU Championship South and winning the RFU National Plate during season 2018-2019.

Ollie represented England for over 10 years. The highlight of her career was winning the Grand Slam Six Nations 2009. After retiring in 2011, she couldn’t stay away from rugby long, getting involved in coaching at Henley, as her husband played for the first team. In 2017/2018 the Women XV managed their highest place in the RFU Championship South finishing 3rd. Ollie is driven by her passion of moving the women’s game forward, and getting more girls and women playing team sports.

Ollie commented  ‘I’m delighted to take on this new role and excited for the future of Henley Hawks Women. The women’s team have been building some great foundations over the last few seasons and we are in a great position to make a real step-change. We finished last season off in style with a champagne performance to win the Plate, which was a fantastic way to finish, and I know the team are raring to go to achieve the most successful season yet.

Joe Harwood is appointed as Head Coach for the Women’s XV. Joe is RFU Level 3 qualified coach who joins us from Newbury RFC. Joe has been involved with Newbury RFC Ladies for the last five years with the last three as Head Coach. During Joe’s time at Newbury he has overseen 53 wins out of 69 matches,  securing 3 Berkshire RFU Cups, 1 Berkshire RFU Plate, promotion from National Challenge South East West 1 to Championship 2 South West.

Joe is also coaching at Pangbourne College and with the London Irish Community Team.

Following his appointment Joe commented ‘I'm hugely excited by the challenge of coaching in a higher league, with a new team, in a new environment. I'll be looking to build upon the success they had last season when they won the RFU National Plate. It's a team and club with a great history and tradition within the Women's game and I look forward to adding to that history going forward’.

Joe will be supported by Carly Dudding – Lead Coach and Lizzie Hearn – Team Manager for the 2019 – 2020 season.

Aubrey Doran, Director of Rugby Administration commented ‘These appointments demonstrate the club’s commitment to Women’s Rugby and continue to build our coaching and support capability in an ever increasing competitive landscape within the Women’s game. The above appointments will also support the great work undertaken by Lisa Tavior and Patrick Tooley in developing the clubs Age-Grade Rugby for girls locally at the club and within local schools. I wish Ollie and Joe every success in these roles’
