Hawks set for Canterbury challenge

Rugby returns to Dry Leas with the recent snows having thawed to allow the Hawks to play their first game since defeating Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, 27-18 on March 3rd which lifted them to 6th in the league. Their two attempts to play Taunton Titans at Dry Leas were frustrated by snow and the game has been now rearranged for Good Friday (kick-off 2.30 pm).

With improved weather there will be plenty of action at Dry Leas this Saturday for in addition to a busy fixture list for the Henley teams, it will be the annual Charity Day at the Club. This year's funds will be raised in aid of Cancer Research UK which will also benefit from the Beer Festival supported by local breweries.

Canterbury arrive at Dry Leas having won a very tight encounter, 25-24 last November with George Jackson's injury time conversion hitting the upright to deny them victory. The Kent side have not had the greatest season by their usual standards, having won only 11 games which has left them 10th in the league. Most recently, they lost 24-17 to an inconsistent Clifton side, and away at Worthing, 22-17 who have also had an indifferent season themselves.

As far as the Hawks team is concerned, as has become customary, they have made changes in the front row where Brad Cook and Tom Emery take over from Dave Manning and John Wunder.

However, there is a considerable shuffle amongst the back with a new pairing in the centre with Connor Hayhow alongside Alan Awcock who has not been available for two weeks. Sam Portland takes over from Xavier Andre at left wing with the inform Jack Robinson continuing at full back.

A good performance in this game will perhaps see Director of Rugby, Nigel Dudding’s ambition declared at the beginning of the season of finishing in the top six being fulfilled.
