In successive weeks, Henley Hawks have a huge derby match when they make the short journey up to Chinnor tomorrow afternoon, kick-off 3pm. They surprised the home side last season when they drew the game 29-29 in a fantastic game of rugby just before Christmas. The home side went on to narrowly miss out on promotion.
Both treams had dramatic finishes to the their games last week, Chinnor drew 24-24 at Clfton with a converted try in the last minute, whilst the Hawks, 24-10 down at halftime against Redingensians having conceded three tries in a poor first 40 minutes, put in a very strong performance after the break, orchestrated by the forwards, good place kicking and better fitness levels which ultimately saw them over the line with 28-24 victory.
For this game they will be without centre Aian Awcock because of work commitments, their best back although they will need to defend well against a good attacking back line.
They do welcome back Dave Clements, last season’s skipper, to the second row and it would seem that the forward selection is the best bet in defeating a Chinnor side that is always difficult to defeat at home.
Hawks side vs Chinnor - Saturday, September 9th. Kick-Off 3pm at Rectory Pavilion
