Hardly a season ever passes without Worthing and the Hawks having close encounters and this season looks to continue that trend. The most memorable match between the two sides was in the 2013/14 season when the National 2 South Championship title was on the line. Before a record crowd at Dry Leas on May 4th, the Hawks won a barnstorming contest, 55-27 scoring eight tries after conceding one in the first five minutes.
Such a thriller may not be on the cards for the sides today although they are very evenly matched in terms of league places with the Hawks in 7th and the Raiders in 9th.
Last Saturday the Raiders defeated Old Redcliffians, 40 -34 with fullback Jack Maslen scoring a hat trick of tries and Matt Mclean also scoring fifteen points from a try and five conversions confirming his position as top points scorer in the league with a total of 130. Without a doubt, two players for the Hawks to watch out for.
The Hawks will again be able to field a well settled side which is indicative of their advance up the league table, although the one point loss at Canterbury interrupted this. There is one change at prop with George Primett taking over from Joe Morris and in the back row, Rob Bell is away so the experienced Tommy Haynes starts at No.7
Outside the scrum the Hawks welcome back Alan Awcock who has been on school duties for the last two games as Liam O’Neill is rested.
