Women Keep Their Heads v Hove

Hawks 10 pts Hove 10 pts

Riding high after a good performance against Trojans last week the Hawks were looking forward to taking on Hove at home. The game started with some scrappy interchanges between the two sides but it soon settled down and before we knew it, we had a good game on our hands.

The Hawks showed good structure and executed their game plan effectively against a big and strong Hove team. Unfortunately though Hove were able to get points on the scoreboard early with a good try in the right hand corner, but were unable to convert. The Hawks did not let this phase them, maintained their composure and the game plan finally worked to their favour a wide ball from Dudding and good hands through Wheeler to Murray and the Hawks scored in the top right hand corner. Unfortunately Dudding was unable to convert the try to put the Hawks in front. Half time score 5 - 5.

A scrappy start to the second half and Hove were able to maintain possession in the Hawks half putting pressure on a Hawks defence. Although the Hawks defence was strong they weren't able to keep out a relentless Hove side but were able to force them to score in the corner. 10 - 5 to Hove. Again, Hawks were unphased by the fact that Hove had the lead and were determined to get back into the game. The last twenty minutes saw some positive play from the Hawks despite losing Dudding who broke her nose and had to go off to be replaced by Craig at 10. The forwards continued to run strong and hard and the backs were able to get good ball. Solowin had some great runs and turned over some brilliant ball. Hove at this point were finding it difficult to get into the game as Hawks continued to attack with tenacity and hit hard in defence. Some great hits from vice captain Wysocki-Jones. 5 minutes on the clock and Hove had a scrum in their 22 and Ferguson stole it against the head. A string of strong runs from the forwards and Matthews was able to score. Unfortunately Wheeler, who stepped in for Dudding was unable to convert (despite a great attempt). Final score 10 - 10.

Players player went to Ferguson and Coaches player went to Timmins. Sadly we say goodbye to Groves who is moving down south and will play the rest of the season with Trojans.
