The Hawks home game against Old Elthamians on 22nd October is being designated as “Red Trouser Day” at the club in direct support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, so that a dedicated team at The Royal Marsden can develop more research in the area of bowel cancer. The team are planning research in early detection methods, robotic surgery techniques and post-operative care.
The concept of “Red Trouser Day” was started by Paul Finch, who is a Colorectal Cancer survivor. As a result of his treatment at the Royal Marsden, he overturned a 10% chance of making it 5 years to 99% full recovery without major life changing bowel surgery. The experimental treatment is sorely lacking in funding and thus almost impossible to access hence the very specific focus of this charity. At an initial fundraising supper, Paul wore a very distinctive pair of red trousers – and so the title for the Charity was created.
Henley, having a strong association with red trouser wearing individuals, was a natural ally and following a facebook link between Paul and HRFC, our involvement and support commenced.
On Saturday, we hope you shall show your active support and don a suitably bright pair of red trousers to attend the match against OE who are currently 2nd in the Nat2 League Table.
