Squad Update for the 2015/16 Season

I thought you would like some information on the development of the squad for our assault on National 1 next season. This has been a very busy close season for us as we look to develop our ambition of producing a top six finish in the league next season. With the rugby world cup nearly upon us this is sure to be an exciting time at the club. There will be some adjustment to the kick off times for some games to accommodate the RWC fixtures please keep an eye out for these on the website and in the press.

As you are probably aware we have retained the vast majority of last season’s successful squad and added some significant new signings to bolster our resources.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the following to you:

In the backs we welcome back Liam O Neill, who was a prolific try scorer two seasons ago, from Nottingham. Also from Nottingham Elliot Cox who has also been part of the London Irish academy in the past. Elliot can play anywhere across the back three.

With lots of national 1 experience Jack Bradford joins us from Loughborough Students as a utility back. Alongside Jack, team mate Jake Albon an experienced second row who also played the majority of last season for the students.

Also into the second row we welcome Charlie Davy from Cornish Pirates and Josh Tonnar from Esher.  Alongside skipper Dave Clements this will form a formidable line up. Into the front row Tom Emery joins from Exmouth and he will team up with tight head recruit Henry Sandys from Coventry.

Onto the back row where we welcome ex UWIC captain Julian Watkins and Sam Richardson from the Army and Taunton.

We have also secured the services of some very talented youngsters from the London Irish academy namely Theo Brophy Cluse (fly half), Johnny Williams (Centre) and Curtis Langdon (hooker). They of course join Connor Murphy who is making excellent progress after his nasty injury last season. Both Theo and Johnny will shortly be joining the England under 18 squad to tour South Africa and we obviously wish them every success.

Young Cameron Gray and Seb Cecil (second rows) also join us from Oratory and Stowe schools. Both these lads have huge potential and I am sure will make big impressions as they learn and develop.

I am sure you agree these recruits to the Henley family will make for an exciting and memorable season ahead. You can of course meet them all in person on August 6th at 8.30pm as we hold our Meet the Players evening. Tickets are £10 and available from the main office if you wish to eat or just join us for a drink.  All of the new signings will be available to sponsor through our Back a Player scheme, please contact Joanna Emmerson for further information.

Best Wishes,

Nigel Dudding, Director of Rugby
